Press Release - Team Wheelworx
shows its true grit in the Queensland Drift Australia campaign
Team Wheelworx have produced some stunning results from Round 2 of the Toyo Tires Drift Australia Series at Queensland Raceway. It was a long haul for the Tarmac Army, with the whole team dedicated to obtaining a great result.
Qualifying was happy hunting ground for the team, with Linden Reynolds snaring 10th place, Paul Austin securing 16th and Adam May landing 26th place after some mechanical gremlins crept into his R33 Skyline.
Across in the Super D competition, the youngest member of the team, Stewart Furze produced a great drive to lock in 12th place.
It would be during the tandem battles where the true grit of the Tarmac Army would be revealed. There were two early exits for Team Wheelworx in the Drift Australia Top 32, as Linden and Paul were put back on the trailer prematurely.
All was not lost though, with Adam‘Mayhem’ May turning up the heat and cutting a path through to the Top 4. It would bean eventful ride for Mayhem, who would go on to finish in 4th place, the same result he earned at this event in 2007, as well as nailing the best result for the team in the 08season in the process.
In Super D, Stewart battled hard against some very serious local competitors, and
eventually worked his way into the Top 8. Unfortunately, this was where the ride ended
for the Furbinator, when he was bundled out, but not before taking home a nice slice of
valuable championship points. Stewart now lies in second position for the 2008 Super
Drift Championship.

“That was an intense experience. We finished 4th, but there was a lot happening
behind the scenes. The engine dropped a cylinder early Sunday, and we were running
on just 5 cylinders during the battles.
I was ready to throw in the towel, but my head mechanic said the engine could take the punishment, so I kept the foot to the floor. Then out of nowhere, during my battle for the grand final I broke a drive shaft!”
“The crew had the drive shaft changed in just 11 minutes, which has to be some sort of world record. I got back out there, but with a wounded engine, 4th was where my
weekend ended. I am over the moon though, it means more points for the team, and
I am feeling very confident heading into the next round where I will have a home track
advantage at Mallala.”
Paul ‘Aussie’ Austin
“ Definitely a definately a disappointing result considering how well we went in Tassie,
but team learnt a hell of a lot about the new Maxxis Z1 Drift specific tyre which has
allowed us to unlock a lot more grip. The new engine Autosolutions & Restorations
prepared was fantastic and the extra power will certainly help leading into Round 3. So
as a package I think we are heading in the right direction with the team”
Joe Versace - Team Principal
“The whole crew did a sensational job over the weekend. There were some mechanical failures that came out of no where, and the boys rose to the occasion to keep the cars operational. Our team is well drilled in all elements of emergency repairs, and the minimal down time whilst in the pits ensured all cars enjoyed maximum track time”. “All drivers did well in qualifying, with Adam and Stewart's final placing's making the trip to Queensland and the extra work in the pits completely worth it.
To think that Adam eliminated no less than 3 elite level Drift Australia drivers whilst in a car with only 5 of it 6 cylinders working is nothing short of amazing. His efforts have inspired the rest of the team to the point where we will be coming out all guns blazing at the next round at Mallala”
